Miguel Cardoso Explains Why Peter Shalulile Missed Mamelodi Sundowns’ Win Over Chippa United
As a passionate follower of Mamelodi Sundowns, I was just as surprised as many fans when Peter Shalulile’s name was missing from the matchday squad in our win over Chippa United. With the team cruising to a solid victory, one major question lingered—where was our prolific striker?
Thankfully, head coach Miguel Cardoso provided clarity after the match.
Cardoso revealed that Shalulile was not part of the squad due to a minor injury concern. According to the coach, it was nothing serious but rather a precautionary decision to ensure the Namibian hitman doesn’t aggravate the issue ahead of the crucial final stretch of the season.
“We decided to give Peter a bit of rest as he's been dealing with some discomfort. It's important for us to manage our players properly, especially at this stage of the season,” Cardoso explained.
Given Shalulile's importance to the team—both in terms of goals and leadership on the pitch—the decision makes sense. With bigger fixtures ahead and the CAF Champions League still in sight, it’s vital to keep our key players fit and firing.
The good news? Cardoso hinted that Shalulile could return very soon, possibly in the next fixture if he progresses well in recovery.
In the meantime, it was great to see the rest of the squad step up in his absence. The team showed depth, composure, and a winning mentality—exactly what we need as we chase more silverware this season.
